I have a Laurea degree in Physics and a PhD in Geophysics. I joined the Atmospheric Physics Group of the University of L'Aquila in 1991, and now I'm a member of the Department of Physical And Chemical Sciences and of the Center of Excellence CETEMPS. I teach courses on Atmospheric Physics, Atmospheric Modeling and Climate Changes.
Since 2024, I'm the director of the The Laurea Magistrale in Atmospheric Science and Technology for Meteorology & Climate (LMAST4MC), which is a Master of Science (MSc) degree in the Physics class (LM-17), organized as an international inter-university program, jointly proposed by the Sapienza University of Rome and University of L’Aquila.
My research interests centre on numerical modeling of chemical and dynamical processes in the atmosphere. My work has focused on developing and using global models of the stratosphere based on lagrangian approaches (CAS, DFT, Trajectory Mapping), and three-dimensional atmospheric chemical-transport models (CTMs) containing a detailed description of the chemical processes of the stratosphere. I also use a General Circulation Model (GCM) to study the impact of oceanic surface temperature trends and variabilities on the atmosphere and a Regional Climate Model (RegCM) for seasonal predictions. My Research activities includes participation to various international field campaigns.
Most of my research activity is developed in the framework of the Center of Excellence for the integration of remote sensing TEchniques and numerical Modelling for the Prediction of Severe weather (CETEMPS), where I am in charge of the Climate Modelling branch.
Check out the various activities of the centre!
